Jack & Pam Beckstrom
- Our Race Marshalls
Jack and Pam Beckstrom are the glue that has held together Montana's
premiere sled dog race for years. We are truly
honored to have them both at the helm for the 2005 Inaugural Mt. Shasta
Regional Race. Welcome aboard Jack & Pam.
Jack and Pam Beckstrom operate a small racing
kennel in Olney, Montana. Jack has raced long distance,
mid-distance, and sprint races since the early 1970s. Pam enjoys skijoring, recreational mushing, and dog
handling. Jack has been featured on the cover of Mushing Magazine
and has spoken at many sport-related symposiums, talking about nutrition,
training, and conditioning. He and Pam have authored numerous articles
about equipment, nutrition, mushing, and Race to the Sky. They were also
two of the original organizers of the 20 year old Race to the Sky, a 350
mile sled dog race held in Montana each February. Jack also founded the
Root Beer Classic, a weekend dog sled race near Polebridge. It is the
longest running race in Montana (24 years).
Their business, Adanac Sleds and Equipment, is
a Montana business that has been making custom dogsleds, harnesses, and
equipment for dogsledders and ski-joring equipment for over 30 years. The
mail order business sells products on their website to mushers all over the
world including New Zealand, Japan, Korea, South Africa, England, Scotland,
Italy, Switzerland—wherever there are sled dogs.

Veterinarian Care.
The Vet Check on Friday, Feb. 25th will be a
public event intended to educate spectators about the meticulous dog care
involved with maintaining these exceptional canine athletes. Among the list of
things the vets will check for are: hydration, heart rates, feet, joints and
muscles, skin and abdominals as well as making sure that the dogs are current
with vaccinations. Each dog must pass all tests to be allowed to compete. Veterinarians
will be on call throughout the race weekend.
