Fourteen Angels Foundation Partners with American Red Cross-ECRV Disaster and SAR Training Practicum
ECRV
During the Foundation's inaugural long-distance 2005 Mt.Shasta Arrowhead Sled Dog Race, Fourteen Angels Foundation provided an extensive weekend Search & Rescue and Disaster Training Practicum, featuring the capabilities of one of 8 Emergency Communications Response Vehicles in the United States. Local SAR and HAMM radio operators were given the opportunity to train in concert with ECRV vehicle staff and volunteers, and explore a full rage of disaster response communication capabilities. The vehicle is totally self-sufficient, and has onboard video, cell and satellite phone and computer uplinks, 10 portable computers, and the ability to interface different communication devices, enabling service personnel to speak through different bandwidths to each other.   Fourteen Angels continues to provide opportunities for complex Disaster Response and Search & Rescue Training practicums at all its events, and supports the work of national and local Search and Rescue organizations, and the American Red Cross. Fourteen Angels Foundation's
CANINES for K-9s
Assists NDSDF FEMA K-9 Teams
Helping Hurrican Katrina Victims

The National Disaster Search Dog Foundation reported that at least 22 FEMA rated K-9 SAR dogs and handlers were sent from California to New Orleans, to help with victim recovery efforts. The Foundation followed up with NDSDF to help support needs for these, and other teams. 26 teams trained by the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation to Advanced Level, were called out, with the initial teams arriving first on the scene from Florida and Ohio.

NDSDF dogs are rescued from shelters, and are trained to exacting specifications and the highest standards, then provided free of charge to fire departments, police forces, and SAR organizations. The rescued, now come to the rescue.

To help support these teams in their ongoing needs, the Foundation sent replacement supplies and equipment NDSDF to assist K-9 SAR teams in the field. Supplies, or your tax deductible contribution for purchasing supplies, can be sent to:

Fourteen Angels Foundation, Inc.
738 Justeson Road Gridley, CA 95948.

MUSEUM AND EDUCATIONAL EXHIBIT
ANOTHER PROJECT OF THE
FOURTEEN ANGELS FOUNDATION

Thank You DAVE & ALICE!
Dave Armstrong, Jr, WWII training musher from Montana, attended the 2005 weekend events with his wife Alice.  The Foundation was honored to host them.  If it wasn't for Dave's foresight in documenting his WWII military mushing career; and his generosity in sharing his historic collection with the Fourteen Angels Foundation … We wouldn't have had the opportunity to present the historical perspective on Sled Dogs in War & Peace on display in 2005 at the Siskiyou County Museum in Yreka.

Sled Dogs in War & Peace
A historical snapshot of canines used for defense, search and rescue, and racing. The contributions sled dogs have made to our lives, both in wartime and peacetime, was presented with historic photos and artifacts from the collection of veteran musher and WWII sled dog trainer, Dave W. Armstrong, Jr. and Col. Ray Read, curator at the Fort William Henry Harrison Military Museum in Montana. Other items on display included: Iditarod memorabilia, a freight sled, harnesses, tug lines, maps, booties, mukluks, and other essential mushing gear.

The Fourteen Angels Foundation, in conjunction with the The Siskiyou County Museum, offered this exhibit as educational enrichment to the countywide events scheduled during the 2005 Arrowhead Sled Dog Races for K-9 Search & Rescue.  The 135 mile distance sled dog race was California's first long distance sled dog race!

The traveling pictorial Sled Dogs in War & Peace exhibit was featured  at all Sled Dog Race venues, including the Vet Check / Educational Fun Day at Shastice Park on the 25th of February.

Special thanks to Mike Hendryx, Museum Curator/Director of Siskiyou County Historical Museum for his creative contributions in this effort.

Additional thanks to Pam Beckstrom for her advice, direction, contacts and support of our work.
